Position Description & Details:
Are you passionate about helping students succeed? Do you thrive on seeing the "aha!" moment when a concept clicks? If so, Bismarck State College (BSC) invites you to apply for the position of Professional Tutor within our Student Success Center.
As a Professional Tutor, you'll be a key part of our student support network-providing individualized academic assistance, promoting strong study skills, and partnering closely with faculty to extend classroom learning. Whether it's in-person or virtual, your guidance will help students gain confidence, master coursework, and achieve their academic goals.
What You'll Do:
Academic Support
• Conduct one-on-one tutoring sessions (in-person and virtual) across subject areas.
• Consult with students on improving general study strategies and habits.
• Coordinate with faculty to ensure tutoring aligns with classroom instruction.
• Promote tutoring services through classroom visits and student engagement.
• Provide learning resources and materials for asynchronous support when needed.
• Refer students to other campus services such as the MACC, Student Services, or the Testing Center when appropriate.
• Ensure tutoring materials reflect and reinforce BSC's curriculum and learning objectives.
• Maintain open communication with the Teaching and Learning Center Manager to stay aligned with departmental goals.
Departmental and Institutional Support
• Collaborate with team members to improve tutoring programs and processes.
• Contribute ideas to foster innovation and enhance student success initiatives.
• Support the mission and values of Bismarck State College.
Minimum Requirements:
• College coursework completed in relevant subject area
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Proficient in working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Teams, Excel, Access)
• Common courtesy, respect, and politeness while working with students, employees, and the public.
• Excellent written communication skills.
• Good organizational skills and ability to attend to details.
• Disciplined and able to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to work independently and make sound judgments.
• Ability to use down-time constructively, appropriately, and professionally.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree
• Teaching experience
• Experience working with students with accessibility needs
• Experience working with ESL students
