Configuring ODBC Data Source on MacBook Pro
Willing to allow you to have remote access to this laptop for this job.
A week ago Purchased a new MacBook Pro (November 2024 manufacturing Date). Made with an M4 Max Chip, 16 cores with 128GB of memory. I YouTubed how to use VMware to be able to make a virtual machine. I installed the Windows 11 x64 (ARM Version) OS on the virtual machine a few days ago. This allows me to use my Autodesk Advance Steel program on my windows 11.
Everything runs well. However the program I use requires me to have SQL server installed. Although the Windows 11 x64 had the SQL server as part of the installation, it doesn’t seem to be able to communicate with properly. I get this error:
“Error Configuring ODBC Data Source: Advance ODBC Datasource, ODBC error 13: The setup routines for the Advance ODBC Driver ODBC driver could not be loaded due to system error code 193: ..Verify that the file Advance ODBC Data Source Exists and that you can access it.”
From some research it seems ARM’s x64 bit architecture and the OBDC 32bit architecture don’t communicate, however I saw some have found a workaround.
To be fully transparent. Ive tried troubleshooting myself, but after a day I have given up. Please keep in mind I know little to nothing about SQL stuff. Some tell me that there is no way to actually run SQL on Arm based version of windows, so some have found a workaround. I’ve spend a day trying to decipher what ways those have been. I have Pasted links to show you what articles seemed to apply to me the most to give you an idea of what my issue is or things that seemed to apply to me. Maybe you’ll find something in there that will give you a better idea of what I need done.
If I had to recap this in one sentence: …..I need to hire someone to make SQL Server (for any year really as long as it works) to work on my Windows 11 ARM. If they want to use some Azure, or Docker, or whatever other way, I’m okay with that. As long as It functions enough to call the database I need to make this Advance steel program work.
Givens:
Virtual Machine must be VMware
SQL Server must work on Windows 11 Arm
(The test ill do to make sure Job is done is by Installing Autodesk Advance Steel, making sure the above error will not show up.)
