2025 Summer Employment Program - PennDOT (Non-Student)

About the position The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is offering a Summer Employment Program for hard-working individuals seeking temporary positions from early April through October. This program provides opportunities for various roles, including custodial work, highway maintenance, semi-skilled labor, and transportation equipment operation, with the potential for promotion into permanent positions. Candidates will work in an active, fast-paced environment, often outdoors, and may face adverse weather conditions. Responsibilities • Perform cleaning tasks as a Custodial Worker, including washing, waxing, dusting, and sanitizing facilities. • Assist in highway maintenance and construction projects as a Highway Maintenance Worker, including erecting and maintaining traffic signs. • Conduct manual labor in construction and maintenance projects as a Semi-Skilled Laborer. • Operate transportation equipment and perform duties such as traffic control and equipment repair as a CDL Operator. Requirements • Previous custodial and janitorial experience preferred for Custodial Worker positions. • Ability to lift and move heavy objects of reasonable weight for all positions. • One year of experience in laboring work for Semi-Skilled Laborer positions. • Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program or equivalent for CDL Operator positions. Nice-to-haves • Experience operating trucks/equipment used for highway and bridge maintenance and construction. • Vocational training in building and construction work, maintenance, or custodial work.
