Criminal Defense Practice Legal Intern - New York
Intern at The Legal Aid Society, providing holistic criminal defense representation in NYC.
Your Role:
Key responsibilities include:
• Drafting motions
• Conducting legal research
• Assisting with investigations
• Assisting with client interviews
• Reviewing and organizing discovery
• Other duties as assigned
About You:
Candidates should have:
• Current 2L law school student status in good standing
• Preferred but not required relevant clinical program or work experience
• Demonstrated commitment to indigent defense
• Interest in serving racially and socioeconomically oppressed communities
• Ability to work collaboratively with staff
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
Compensation & Benefits:
This is an unpaid intern position. Eligible interns may receive a $1,000 stipend from the Howard Rossbach fund, awarded through a lottery system to support those with financial need.
Training & Development:
Interns will receive remote supervision and have opportunities to attend remote trainings, webinars, and CLEs relevant to their internship.
