Data Protection Engineer
About the position
Responsibilities
• Architect, design, document and support the implementation of privacy-preserving data protection and fine-grained access control solutions.
• Design and develop centralized policy administration services and data access policies.
• Develop and implement mechanisms to measure and monitor the effectiveness of data protection controls.
• Conduct risk assessments and technical analyses across diverse technologies, including architecture, data flow, and code reviews.
• Analyze classification, lineage, and control data to identify risks and improve data protection practices.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to align technology, people, and processes with data protection requirements.
• Provide consulting support to internal and external teams to implement effective data protection measures.
• Partner with cybersecurity and GRC teams to refine controls, improve governance, and align with enterprise risk objectives.
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of data protection policies and standards aligned with industry frameworks (e.g., NIST 800-53).
• Define data protection KPIs and metrics to track performance across the enterprise.
• Evaluate and influence emerging technologies and services to ensure data protection requirements are met.
• Conduct R&D, proofs of concept, and vendor assessments to inform technology strategy.
• Champion data protection across the organization as a subject matter expert and advocate.
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
• Four or more years of relevant work experience in a combination of privacy engineering, privacy-by-design, and data protection roles.
• Strong background in cybersecurity, data governance, policy development, systems design, and Governance, Risk and Compliance.
• Deep knowledge of data protection techniques for structured and unstructured data, including cryptography and tokenization.
• Hands-on experience with identity and access management technologies related to data protection.
• Familiarity with Privacy Enhancing Techniques, such as de-identification, pseudonymization, k-anonymity, and differential privacy.
• Experience with cloud and container architectures and native data protection features.
• Background in data protection operations, policy enforcement, and control monitoring.
• Programming/scripting experience and a strong understanding of database technologies.
