About the Campaign:
Senator Ed Markey is a proven progressive leader with a deep record of delivering for Massachusetts—from championing climate action and reproductive freedom to taking on corporate special interests. As he seeks re-election in 2026, the campaign is building a dynamic, grassroots-driven operation to meet the moment—and we’re looking for a Political and Coalitions Director to help lead our engagement with key allies, stakeholders, and communities across the Commonwealth.
Role Overview:
Reporting to the Campaign Manager, you’ll oversee the campaign’s political relationships, coalition building, and stakeholder outreach. You will lead engagement with elected officials, unions, advocacy organizations, and community leaders, manage the endorsement process, and coordinate surrogate activity. You’ll serve as a key connector between the campaign and the diverse coalitions that make up the Markey movement—ensuring we’re building strong, lasting relationships and mobilizing allies effectively.
Work Location: This position will begin as a hybrid role (remote and in-person) and transition to primarily in-person once the campaign headquarters is established.
Key Responsibilities:
Political Relationship Management: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with elected officials, party leaders, community stakeholders, and key political allies.
Coalition Building: Develop and execute strategies to strengthen and expand campaign coalitions—including labor, grassroots organizations, and progressive advocacy groups.
Endorsement Coordination: Manage the campaign’s endorsement program—identifying opportunities, coordinating outreach, and securing public support from key individuals and organizations.
Union and Labor Relations: Serve as primary liaison to labor unions—ensuring regular communication, coordinating on shared priorities, and supporting labor mobilization efforts.
Surrogate Program Management: Organize and coordinate surrogate activity, including scheduling, talking points, and event support.
Event Support & Political Advance: Assist with planning and executing campaign events, particularly those involving political stakeholders or coalition partners.
Strategic Input: Provide political analysis to inform campaign strategy and identify emerging opportunities or challenges in the political landscape.
