Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer to construct highly digital, low-latency core datasets that will enable data engineers and end-users across Grammarly to work with insightful data at scale. As a Data Engineer in our Data Engineering Platform team, you will play a critical role in driving upgrades to make our analysis easy, creating and modifying core data models and schema structures, and making insightful data and metrics usable within a couple of minutes of real-time events occurring.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive upgrades to make our analysis easy by creating and modifying core data models and schema structures, all while embracing the requirements of our clients.
  • Make insightful data and metrics usable within a couple of minutes of real-time events occurring, and construct streaming processes for the resulting inferred events and aggregated data.
  • Model construction, storage, and access of data at extremely high volumes for our data lakehouse.
  • Improve engineer productivity and self-serve solutions by contributing components to our stream data processing system(s).
  • Own data engineering's infrastructure as-code for provisioning services that allow our experts to deliver mature software installations within a few hours.
  • Build an elite process that will enable our systems to scale.
  • Mentor other back-end engineers in the team and help them grow.
  • Build and contribute to AWS high-scale distributed systems at the back-end.

Requirements and Qualifications

We're looking for someone who embodies our Energetic values — is ethical, adaptable, gritty, compassionate, and surprising. The ideal candidate will have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience with Python, Scala, or Java.
  • Experience with designing database products and writing social queries.
  • Experience designing and standing up APIs and services.
  • Experience with system design and building internal tools.
  • Experience handling applications that work with data from data lakes.
  • At least some experience building internal Administrator sites.
  • Good knowledge of and at least some experience with AWS (or has deep expertise in Azure or GCE and will learn AWS in a short period).
  • The ability to efficiently pick an open-source or third-party tool to achieve what they need or devise a quick and simple solution on their own.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with data engineering and data platform development.
  • Knowledge of data modeling, data warehousing, and data governance.
  • Experience with cloud-based data platforms and technologies.
  • Strong understanding of data security and compliance.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
