As a key member of our Scientific Issues group, you will drive results and define the industry by leveraging cutting-edge examination and innovative methodologies in the clinical trials space.
About the Role

As a Data Scientist at Walgreens, you will be responsible for creating Real-World Evidence (RWE) through advanced analysis and innovative approaches, driving success and influencing internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead complex data analyses to address critical business questions and drive meaningful insights from real-world, clinical, and other data sources.
- Develop and deliver normalized, research-ready patient datasets from in-house data resources or licensed platforms, and interpret results to inform research strategy.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver insights that support biopharmaceutical RWE and clinical trial requests, including analysis of unmet needs, treatment patterns, and healthcare economic burden.
- Design, clean, transform, and store data in an integrated data lake for future analysis and broader team utilization.
- Perform data mining and statistical analysis to uncover new insights into patient populations and treatment outcomes.
- Support the development of real-world data, analytics, and platform capabilities, applying advanced analytics and tools to resolve scientific questions from biopharmaceutical companies.
- Work closely with stakeholders to design and execute outcomes research studies, ensuring high-quality, rigorous, and interpretable results.
- Develop dashboards, analyses, and reports for internal and external use, and conduct due diligence on new real-world data suppliers and vendors.
Essential Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A four-year college education or advanced degree in a quantitative or computational field, with at least 4 years of experience.
- 4 years of experience with R, Python, or SQL, and a strong background in designing and executing robust and reproducible statistical analyses.
- Experience handling large datasets from multiple sources, and a strong understanding of common statistical testing procedures, including generalized linear models, classification, and survival analysis.
- Knowledge of at least one business intelligence (BI) tool, such as Tableau, Power BI, Alteryx, or Spotfire.
- Experience working with protected patient health information (PHI).
Preferred Qualifications
To take your application to the next level, you will ideally have:
- A Ph.D. or graduate degree in statistics, biostatistics, computer science, or a related field.
- Expertise in EMR/Health IT, disease libraries, and claims databases, as well as clinical data standards and ontologies (ICD9/10/ReadCode).
- Experience with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and regulatory compliance guidelines for real-world evidence studies or clinical trials.
- Knowledge of alternative data sources and methods for clinical data collection, particularly those enabled by technology platforms and add-on solutions.
- Experience with trial design, Bayesian modeling, and computational statistics.
- A strong understanding of machine learning techniques and a commitment to ongoing self-learning.
