About the Role
As a World Languages Teacher - Spanish, you'll have the opportunity to work with students from diverse backgrounds and inspire them to become proficient in Spanish. Our ideal candidate is a skilled educator with a passion for language teaching, a strong understanding of instructional best practices, and a commitment to student-centered learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Instructional Method:
- Design and deliver coherent instruction that results in improved student achievement on the P/SAT
- Assign and evaluate student work that leads to mastery of priority standards
- Involve students in learning using research-based differentiation practices and educational technology
- Make effective use of entire class periods and adjust teaching approaches to assure maximum student mastery
- Instructional Planning:
- Establish a positive and safe, student-centered learning environment
- Regularly revise lesson plans based on formative assessment data
- Plan instructional examples, illustrations, and time for questions into lessons
- Address different styles of learning by employing a variety of instructional techniques and materials
- Subject Matter:
- Demonstrate command of subject areas crucial to instructional effectiveness
- Demonstrate knowledge of contemporary instructional research related to the subject area and to the teaching of diverse students
- Remain current in the assigned content area and in the profession
- Classroom Management Competencies:
- Develop, communicate, and enforce a set of classroom rules, policies, procedures, and expectations
- Monitor student behavior and respond to behavior problems quickly and appropriately
- Provide students feedback on their knowledge and skill
- Interact with students in ways which are respectful and friendly, and which reflect an understanding of cultural differences
- Professionally Related Competencies:
- Participate in review and updating of curricular programs
- Adhere to all personal absences procedures and provide appropriate plans and materials for use by the substitute
- Model and enforce classroom and school rules, policies, and procedures; exemplify the district's mission and beliefs
- Productively collaborate with other educational personnel
Essential Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you must have:
- A Valid Illinois Professional Educators License with endorsement in Spanish
- A Master's Degree in a relevant field
- Previous high school teaching experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of instructional best practices and mastery-based learning
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications are highly desirable:
- Experience with educational technology and online teaching platforms
- Knowledge of contemporary instructional research related to language teaching
- Experience working with diverse student populations
- Certifications or training in language teaching methodologies (e.g., ACTFL, DELE)
