As an Inbound Transportation Manager, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth flow of goods from our vendors' doors to our US warehouse network, worth over $500M annually.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct and manage inbound supply chain teams to optimize shipping activities, while working closely with freight forwarders and carriers to encourage high service levels and value
  • Liaise with Procurement, Warehousing, and Finance teams regarding shipments and inventory/cash flow
  • Oversee teams that coordinate ocean container shipping (including booking at origin), drayage trucking, analytics, and invoicing
  • Ensure that staff execute at the company's high standards
  • Liaise with third-party business partners, such as steamship lines, freight forwarders, truckers, and origin managers
  • Monitor incoming inventory status at warehouses/distribution centers on a continual basis and help optimize ready-to-ship metrics without increasing detention and demurrage
  • Participate in carrier contract negotiations and compliance
  • Monitor developments and new technologies in Supply Chain Logistics
  • Manage to Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), such as cost per container and truckload, lead times, dwell times, and on-time delivery
  • Develop and implement process improvements
  • Participate in scheduled meetings as needed to stay in tune with company requirements and opportunities and keep the appropriate departments abreast of trends and changes in the logistics industry
  • Help to resolve issues for high-priority customers, including special import requests
  • Track and communicate cost and performance results
  • Represent the company during occasional in-person meetings and conferences, as well as daily virtual calls
  • Ensure team completion of high-ROI initiatives
  • Manage expenses to budget constraints
  • Utilize superior communications skills to motivate staff and develop effective working relationships with peers, executives, and clients
  • Personally coach, train, and mentor team members and provide career development opportunities
  • Conduct annual performance reviews for direct reports within the department and address all employee performance problems promptly and directly in accordance with personnel policies and procedures

Essential and Preferred Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Logistics experience, ideally in an importing function
  • Knowledge of Ocean Freight and Drayage Trucking processes
  • Experience in a consumer product, B2B, and/or e-commerce industry preferred, but not required
  • Strong decision-making and attention to detail
  • Ambition to succeed in a fast-paced team environment
  • Demonstrated experience pulling together analysis and recommendations to present to senior leaders
  • Proven team building, negotiating, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated leadership, teamwork, and people skills

  • Strong computer skills, proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
