About the Role

As an Instructor of Learning Strategies, you'll play a vital role in supporting students' academic success and helping them achieve their career goals. Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a steward for WGU's mission and strategic vision by demonstrating a commitment to learner-centered, competency-based education.
  • Monitor the course progress of assigned students and provide proactive support at key points in their academic journey.
  • Provide expertise in your content area and maintain current knowledge in your field to inform your teaching practices.
  • Foster student learning through innovative, effective teaching methods that cater to diverse learning needs.
  • Respond promptly to student inquiries and communicate professionally with students and colleagues.
  • Utilize technology-based teaching and communication platforms to support student development and success.
  • Collaborate with other professionals within the university to promote a positive, student-obsessed atmosphere.
  • Participate in required training activities and stay up-to-date with best practices in online education.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in response to changing requirements, priorities, and deadlines.

Essential Qualifications and Skills

To succeed in this role, you'll need to possess a unique combination of skills, knowledge, and experience. The ideal candidate will have:

  • A Master's degree in a relevant field (Healthcare, Adult Learning, Health Education, Health and Human Services, or Psychology) from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of two years of experience providing educational support and instruction.
  • Demonstrated ability to customize instructional support for learners with diverse needs and educational backgrounds.
  • Technological competency, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and virtual instructional platforms.
  • Excellent customer service orientation and strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to use data to inform decision-making and drive student success.
  • Strong understanding of competency-based education and the WGU model.

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications are highly desirable:

  • A Doctorate or terminal degree in a specific content area from an accredited institution.
  • Experience with distance education and supporting distance learning students.
