Introduction to Tesla and the Role

Tesla, a pioneer in the electric vehicle and clean energy industry, is seeking an experienced Industrialization Specialist to join its Provider Industrialization group. This team is responsible for part development, part and interaction capability exercises, quality management, and continuous improvement activities at suppliers. As an Industrialization Specialist, you will play a critical role in creating and implementing strategies to develop suppliers, ensuring they meet Tesla's high standards for quality, manufacturing, and design. Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will be responsible for a wide range of activities, including:

  • Planning, coordinating, directing, and leading industrialization-related activities within the supply chain group
  • Creating, maintaining, reviewing, improving, and addressing supplier planning and execution of part manufacturing and assembly strategies and quality control processes
  • Providing leadership for New Product Introduction (NPI) at suppliers
  • Leading supplier improvements in flexibility, cost, and quality
  • Communicating and explaining technical requirements among suppliers and Tesla's Purchasing, Quality, and Design teams
  • Conducting supplier audits to ensure their ability to meet part performance, delivery, and reliability expectations
  • Collaborating with Tesla's Design, Quality, and Manufacturing teams to determine the best performance specifications and supplier metrics
  • Driving, tracking, and improving supplier manufacturing process development, launch preparation for new products and design changes, and driving continuous improvement activities using Lean Manufacturing and First Principles methodologies
  • Guiding suppliers in developing robust processes and methodologies to advance efficient and consistent production of high-quality products
  • Approving supplier corrective actions, including design and/or process changes, to ensure they are robust, sustainable, and implemented for comparable expected concerns across manufacturing lines and suppliers
  • Providing feedback on new or alternative materials for improved design, manufacturability, or cost reduction
  • Participating in supplier DFM audits, guiding suppliers in the effective use of poke-yokes, best practices for manufacturing, testing, and inspection, and proper tools or assembly equipment to use

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Science, Physics, or equivalent experience and expertise
  • Experience in Quality Systems and PPAP/APQP processes
  • A high-level working knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC), Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), and Lean Manufacturing, and how to apply these skills to improve quality, capacity, and reduce cost
  • A high-level working knowledge of tooling management and maintenance, high-volume forming production processes, metallization and painting of formed surfaces, ownership for part life-cycle from raw material approval through final inspection
  • Proven leadership capabilities
  • Past experience managing safety-critical parts
  • Ability to communicate and coordinate supplier activities at the management level
  • Ability to define and execute a project using project management methodologies
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Excellent team-building skills in managing suppliers, peers, and other functional areas
  • Solid technical writing ability and a capacity to explain complex issues in a concise and straightforward manner
  • Familiarity with SPC and data analysis

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:

  • Experience working in the automotive or aerospace industry
  • Knowledge of electric vehicle manufacturing and technology
  • Experience with supplier development and quality management
  • Certifications in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other quality management methodologies
