Job Summary
We are seeking a talented and dedicated Assistant Professor of Spanish to join our faculty in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. This is a full-time, tenure-track position that will commence in the Fall Semester of 2024. The successful candidate will be expected to teach a variety of Spanish courses, contribute to the development of our modern language curriculum, and engage in scholarly activities that align with the university's mission and values.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach a combination of 24 credits of Spanish courses per academic year, including lower and upper division courses, with a focus on Translation and Interpretation.
- Assist in developing and enhancing the modern language curriculum to ensure it remains relevant and challenging for our students.
- Participate in Study Abroad programs in Spain and Latin America, contributing to the educational experience of our students and fostering global understanding.
- Engage in the assessment process through the curriculum, ensuring that our programs meet the highest standards of academic excellence.
- Serve on various college, division, and departmental committees, contributing to the governance and strategic direction of our institution.
- Advise students on general education and discipline-specific requirements, providing guidance and mentorship.
- Develop and maintain a research agenda that is appropriate to a teaching university, with a focus on scholarship of discovery and pedagogy.
- Collaborate with other faculty members in program management and adhere to university policies, contributing to a positive and productive academic environment.
Qualifications and Requirements
To be considered for this role, candidates must possess a Doctorate degree in Translation Studies (Spanish) and/or Spanish Literature with a proven track record in Translation and Interpretation from an accredited institution. ABD candidates will be considered if they have a defense date already set, with the understanding that tenure-track status is contingent upon the completion of the doctoral degree.
Preference will be given to candidates with:
- A minimum of three years of teaching experience at the college level, with a demonstrated ability to teach a range of courses including beginning, intermediate, and advanced Spanish, Translation, Interpretation, and Spanish for the professions.
- Experience in curriculum development and a commitment to innovative and effective teaching practices.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, with excellent oral and written communication skills in both Spanish and English.
- A willingness to engage with colleagues, staff, and administrators to enhance the educational experience of our students and contribute to the development of our modern language programs.
- Experience with Study Abroad programs in Spanish-speaking countries is highly desirable.

Compensation and Benefits
We offer a competitive salary range of $58,000-$61,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience, with additional compensation available for optional summer and overload teaching. Our benefits package includes:
