Job Overview

As an Assistant Boys Basketball Coach at Plainville Community Schools, you will play a vital role in supporting the development of our boys' basketball program, working closely with the Head Coach to design and implement training sessions, develop game strategies, and foster a culture of teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship among our student-athletes. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head Coach in planning and executing practice sessions, games, and tournaments, ensuring that all activities are aligned with the team's overall strategy and goals.
  • Provide individualized coaching and feedback to student-athletes, helping them to develop their skills, build their confidence, and achieve their personal best.
  • Collaborate with the Head Coach to develop and implement game plans, analyzing opponent strengths and weaknesses, and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Participate in scouting and recruiting activities, identifying talented young athletes and helping to build a strong and competitive team.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive team culture, promoting values such as teamwork, respect, and sportsmanship, and ensuring that all student-athletes feel valued, supported, and empowered to succeed.
  • Communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents, and other stakeholders, providing regular updates on team performance, player development, and upcoming events.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest coaching methods, technologies, and best practices, continuously seeking ways to improve and enhance the team's performance and overall experience.

Essential Qualifications

  • CT Coaching permit (with Sports Safety Training)
  • Completion of Concussion Management (Head Injury) training
  • First Aid/CPR and AED Certificates
  • Proven experience as a basketball coach, preferably at the high school or college level
  • Strong knowledge of basketball strategies, tactics, and techniques
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
  • Ability to work effectively with student-athletes, parents, and other stakeholders
  • Strong commitment to teamwork, sportsmanship, and character development

Preferred Qualifications

  • College or university degree in a related field (e.g., physical education, sports management, coaching)
  • Advanced coaching certifications or qualifications (e.g., USA Basketball, NCAA)
  • Experience with video analysis software and other coaching technologies
  • Strong network of contacts within the basketball community, including coaches, scouts, and recruiters
  • Ability to speak multiple languages, preferably including Spanish or other languages spoken by our student-athletes and their families
