Job Overview

As a Child Care Cook and Food Specialist, you will be responsible for preparing nutritious meals and snacks for our enrolled children, maintaining a safe and healthy kitchen environment, and assisting in classrooms as needed. Key Responsibilities

  • Create home-style, nutritional meal plans within the boundaries of our school's menu and budget, as well as state and federal requirements
  • Prepare meals and snacks for children and staff, and distribute food to the classrooms
  • Follow the daily menu provided by the Director, incorporating USDA, licensing, and/or health department regulations
  • Maintain inventory of food and supplies, and order more when needed
  • Assist in classrooms as needed as an Assistant Teacher/Floater
  • Adapt to menu changes and meet meal and snack schedules
  • Collaborate with the teaching team to ensure that meals and snacks are integrated into the educational program

Essential Qualifications

  • Work experience in cooking and/or food preparation for multiple individuals in a childcare facility, preferred
  • A willingness to learn and adhere to all current state and local regulations
  • Flexibility as to the hours and schedule of work
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion

Preferred Qualifications

  • Culinary degree or certification, or equivalent experience
  • Experience working in a childcare or education setting
  • Knowledge of nutrition and meal planning for young children
  • First aid and CPR certification
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess excellent cooking and food preparation skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team environment. You will also need to be highly organized, able to prioritize tasks, and maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment.
