Key Responsibilities
As an Early Years Teacher at LSF, you will play a vital role in shaping the minds of young children and laying the foundation for their future success. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Planning, developing, and implementing daily lesson plans that provide educational and enrichment activities for pre-school age children or infants and toddlers
- Creating a safe and effective learning environment by arranging classrooms into distinctive learning areas
- Screening and assessing children to determine developmental/educational needs and developing individual education plans
- Monitoring meal and snack periods, classroom and restroom activities, and playground activities to ensure a safe environment for young children
- Documenting children's progress and completing required manual and computerized forms and reports
- Communicating with parents through parent conferences, written correspondence, and telephone to apprise them of child's progress and other relevant information
- Conducting health checks on children and reporting any health concerns to the appropriate Health Coordinator
- Ensuring lessons and classroom activities align with the Florida Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten Standards and conducting assessments as required
Essential Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following essential qualifications:
- An Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field
- Two years of experience teaching Head Start, Early Head Start, pre-school, or kindergarten age children
- Working knowledge of brain development and its impact on early learning, child development, culture and practices for early childhood, and developmentally appropriate practices
- Skill in verbal communication with infants, toddlers, and pre-school age children, as well as the ability to resolve conflicts between pre-school age children
- Ability to plan, organize, and supervise the work of others, as well as implement routine care for infants and toddlers in a responsive environment
Preferred Qualifications
While not essential, the following qualifications are preferred:
- Bilingual proficiency in English/Spanish or English and other languages present in the local area
- Experience working with children with special needs and implementing individualized education plans
- Knowledge of current educational techniques and practices relating to early childhood development
- Ability to provide physical assistance in the transportation of special needs children and safely operate a motor vehicle
