Job Overview

As a Special Education Teacher at EastSide Charter School, you will play a vital role in the growth and development of our students. You will be responsible for planning, instructing, assessing, leading, mentoring, and guiding your students to academic success, overcoming any hurdles or obstacles that may stand in their way. You will work collaboratively with our general education teachers, using an inclusion model, to remove barriers that may hinder our students' success and ensure that they receive the accommodations and services they need to thrive in the least restrictive environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and Implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs): Create and implement IEPs for students on your caseload, evaluating their progress and reporting regularly.
  • Plan and Lead Lessons: Design and deliver lessons to students in individual and small group settings, adapting classroom activities and materials to support students' IEP goals and modifications.
  • Collaborate with General Education Teachers: Work closely with general education teachers to analyze, assess, and improve the educational experience for our students.
  • Establish Strong Communication Lines: Maintain open and effective communication with parents, colleagues, and other stakeholders to ensure that our students receive the support they need.
  • Attend Meetings and Professional Developments: Participate in bi-weekly team meetings, in-service professional developments, and other meetings as required to stay up-to-date on best practices and acquire new skills.

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following essential qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree: Hold a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year educational institution.
  • State of Delaware Certification: Have or be eligible for State of Delaware certification as a special education teacher (K-12).
  • Teaching Experience: Have at least one year of teaching experience, with a preferred two years of experience in an urban classroom setting.
  • Outstanding Record of Elevating Student Achievement: Demonstrate a strong understanding of pedagogy that drives results and a proven track record of improving student achievement in an urban setting.

Preferred Qualifications

In addition to the essential qualifications, we are looking for candidates who possess the following preferred qualifications:

  • Master's Degree: Hold a Master's Degree in Special Education or a related field.
  • Experience Working with Diverse Populations: Have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds, including those with disabilities and from underrepresented ethnic groups.
  • Bilingual or Multilingual: Be fluent in more than one language, with the ability to communicate effectively with students and families from diverse linguistic backgrounds.

  • Adaptable and Flexible: Be able to adapt to changing circumstances and priorities, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to learn.
