About the Role

As a secondary classroom teacher at our UT University Charter School in The Woodlands, you will play a vital role in creating a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of our students. Your expertise and passion for teaching will be instrumental in planning and implementing instructional interventions, strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that add educational value for each student, including those with diverse learning needs such as ESL, GT, and at-risk students.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create a supportive and inclusive learning environment that fosters the academic, social, and emotional growth of students with diverse needs.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that are tailored to meet the individual needs of students, aligning with UT-UCS curriculum standards and relevant policies and procedures.
  • Effectively manage student behavior, utilizing strategies that are in accordance with the treatment plan, the Student Code of Conduct, and the student handbook.
  • Establish and maintain open communication with the principal, professional support personnel, teachers, facility staff, parents, and students to ensure a collaborative approach to student learning and well-being.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student learning, utilizing data to inform instruction and make data-driven decisions that support student progress.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, committee meetings, and staff development as required, contributing to the ongoing improvement of educational practices and policies.

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following essential qualifications:

  • Valid Texas Special Education EC-12 and any Secondary ELA or Secondary Math teaching certifications.
  • Knowledge of assigned subject or subjects, as well as an understanding of TEKS and the curriculum standards of the State of Texas.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a non-traditional school setting with special needs students of varying abilities and interests.
  • Proficiency in technology and technology applications to the level specified by the district.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Maintain awareness and understanding of the role that trauma may play in the lives of our students.

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:

  • Valid Texas ESL certification.
  • At least 2 years of experience working with students with diverse special education needs.
