Job Details

* **Job Type:** Part-time remote opportunity * **Location:** Remote (Texas, USA) * **Salary:** $18/hour * **Hours:** 8 hours per week * **Duration:** 26 weeks (with the possibility of extension) * **Start Date:** Immediate openings available

Responsibilities

As a part-time remote software engineer, you will be responsible for: * Researching, designing, and developing software applications to enhance and expand Google's product offerings * Contributing to a wide range of projects using natural language processing, machine learning, data compression, AI, and search technologies * Collaborating with the team to address issues related to data access and information sharing * Utilizing expertise in large-scale production software development and investigation * Assisting with maintaining strategic services

Qualifications

To be considered for this part-time remote opportunity, you must: * Be currently enrolled in a PhD program in software engineering or a related field, and be in your penultimate year of study * Have experience with information design or calculations from college, an entry-level position, open-source side interest coding, or other relevant experience * Have coding experience in one of the following programming languages: C++, Java, Python, or Go * Have a strong understanding of software development principles and practices * Be able to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team * Be able to communicate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications are highly desirable: * Having completed a temporary job or work experience (e.g., research associate, teaching assistant, personal projects, etc.) with programming in one of the following languages: C++, Java, Python, or Go * Having experience with at least one of the following: web application development, Unix/Linux, mobile application development, distributed and parallel systems, AI, data recovery, natural language processing, networking, developing large software systems, and security software development * Having an interest and ability to learn other coding languages as needed * Having a strong understanding of software development methodologies and best practices
