Remote, USA Full-time Posted 2025-11-08

About the Organization – Empowering Learners Nationwide

TPAPT (Tutoring Professionals Across the Phoenix Triangle) is a proud member of a national consortium that unites more than 12,000 locally owned and operated tutoring and college‑advising programs across the United States. Our mission is simple yet powerful: to create personalized pathways to academic success for every student, regardless of background or learning style. By leveraging the expertise of passionate educators, innovative instructional strategies, and a community‑first philosophy, we have helped thousands of students achieve higher test scores, stronger grades, and greater confidence in their abilities.

Our Phoenix‑based team reflects the same commitment to excellence. We partner with families, schools, and community organizations to deliver high‑impact, in‑person tutoring that is tailored, data‑driven, and results‑oriented. As we continue to expand our footprint, we are seeking dynamic, motivated, and compassionate math tutors who are ready to make an immediate difference in the lives of students from fifth grade through twelfth grade.

Why This Role Is Different – The Impact of an In‑Person Math Tutor

In an age where virtual learning has become commonplace, the power of face‑to‑face interaction remains unmatched, especially in subjects like mathematics where misconceptions can quickly snowball. As an in‑person Math Tutor with TPAPT, you will:

  • Build strong, trust‑based relationships with students and their families.
  • Diagnose learning gaps through direct observation and targeted questioning.
  • Create bespoke lesson plans that align with each student’s curriculum, learning style, and academic goals.
  • Serve as a mentor, instilling confidence, problem‑solving habits, and a growth mindset.
  • Contribute to a broader network of educators dedicated to raising achievement standards across the Phoenix region.

Key Responsibilities – Your Day‑to‑Day Impact

Direct Teaching & Learning Support

  • Provide one‑on‑one, in‑home math tutoring sessions for students in grades 5‑12, adhering to a mutually agreed schedule that often includes evenings and weekends.
  • Diagnose individual learning needs through pre‑session assessments, ongoing observations, and dialogues with students.
  • Design and deliver customized lesson plans that cover core topics such as arithmetic, pre‑algebra, algebra I & II, geometry, trigonometry, pre‑calculus, and SAT/ACT test‑prep content.
  • Utilize hands‑on manipulatives, visual aids, technology tools, and real‑world examples to make abstract concepts concrete.
  • Guide students through homework assignments, ensuring they understand both procedural steps and underlying concepts.

Progress Monitoring & Reporting

  • Maintain meticulous records of each tutoring session, including attendance, topics covered, mastery levels, and any challenges encountered.
  • Generate weekly progress reports for families, highlighting successes, areas for improvement, and actionable next steps.
  • Collaborate with parents and, when appropriate, school teachers to align tutoring objectives with classroom instruction.

Professional Collaboration & Development

  • Participate in quarterly professional‑development workshops hosted by TPAPT, focusing on best practices in differentiated instruction, assessment techniques, and digital learning resources.
  • Share insights and successful strategies with fellow tutors through an internal knowledge‑sharing platform.
  • Stay current with the latest curriculum standards (e.g., Common Core, Arizona State Standards) and standardized‑test requirements.

Essential Qualifications – What We Require to Succeed

  • Education: Currently enrolled in the junior year (or beyond) of a four‑year, degree‑granting college or university, with a focus on mathematics, education, or a related field. A completed Bachelor’s degree is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Subject Mastery: Demonstrated proficiency in middle‑ and high‑school mathematics, including the ability to teach concepts from basic arithmetic through pre‑calculus and standardized‑test preparation.
  • Experience: Prior experience tutoring, teaching, or providing test‑preparation assistance in mathematics is essential.
  • Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal abilities with a talent for breaking down complex ideas into clear, understandable steps.
  • Flexibility: Availability to work evenings and weekends to accommodate students’ schedules.
  • Independence: Ability to work autonomously, manage your own calendar, and deliver high‑quality instruction without constant supervision.
  • Professionalism: Punctuality, reliability, and a respectful demeanor toward students, families, and the broader TPAPT community.

Preferred Qualifications – Added Advantages

  • Certification in secondary‑school mathematics education or a related credential.
  • Experience with virtual tutoring platforms (e.g., Zoom, Google Meet) to supplement in‑person sessions as needed.
  • Familiarity with standardized‑test frameworks such as the SAT, ACT, or state assessments.
  • Background checks or prior work with youth‑protection programs.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development through workshops, conferences, or coursework.

Core Skills & Competencies – What Makes an Outstanding Tutor

  • Instructional Design: Ability to craft lesson plans that align with learning objectives, incorporate varied instructional strategies, and adapt in real time based on student feedback.
  • Analytical Thinking: Skilled at diagnosing problems, interpreting student errors, and guiding learners toward self‑correction.
  • Patience & Empathy: Recognizes the emotional dimension of learning math and creates a supportive atmosphere that encourages risk‑taking and perseverance.
  • Time Management: Balances multiple students, scheduling constraints, and administrative tasks efficiently.
  • Technology Literacy: Comfortable using digital tools for scheduling, documentation, and supplemental instruction (e.g., Khan Academy, Desmos, GeoGebra).
  • Growth Mindset Advocacy: Promotes a belief that ability develops with effort, encouraging students to view challenges as opportunities.
