Job Summary:

As a Pathologists' Assistant, you will be responsible for providing technical support to our anatomic pathology team, including: * Assisting pathologists in the examination and processing of surgical specimens * Performing dissections and dictating gross descriptions of surgical specimens * Obtaining and reviewing pertinent clinical information and history for specimens * Conducting frozen sections and maintaining frozen section equipment * Collecting designated specimens for special studies and frozen tissue bank * Conducting training seminars and instructing pathologists' assistant students in techniques and protocols * Evaluating and providing feedback on PA student projects * Maintaining pathology laboratory facilities and equipment in a clean and safe condition * Communicating with managers of other departments and providing guidelines for specimen triage and requirements

Key Responsibilities:

* Assist pathologists in the examination and processing of surgical specimens * Perform dissections and dictate gross descriptions of surgical specimens * Obtain and review pertinent clinical information and history for specimens * Conduct frozen sections and maintain frozen section equipment * Collect designated specimens for special studies and frozen tissue bank * Conduct training seminars and instruct students in techniques and protocols * Evaluate and provide feedback on PA student projects * Maintain pathology laboratory facilities and equipment in a clean and safe condition * Communicate with managers of other departments and provide guidelines for specimen triage and requirements

Qualifications:

* Graduate from a Baccalaureate Pathology Assistant program or successful completion of a post-baccalaureate program from an approved school of Pathology Assistants * Certification by American Association of Pathology Assistants (AAPA) or American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) as a Pathology Assistant, or must successfully attain certification within 6 months of employment as a Pathology Assistant to retain employment at the DMCUL * 3-5 years of experience in pathology, preferably in anatomic pathology * Strong technical skills and knowledge of anatomic pathology procedures and protocols * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills * Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively
