- Vendor Collaboration: Partner closely with sensor manufacturers to define specifications, guide custom silicon development, and resolve technical challenges throughout the design‑to‑production pipeline.
- Cross‑Functional Integration: Work with optical engineers, system architects, firmware teams, and product managers to ensure seamless integration of sensors into Apple camera modules, addressing mechanical, electrical, and software interfaces.
- Testing Strategy Development: Design and implement comprehensive test plans—including wafer‑level characterization, module‑level validation, and environmental stress testing—to guarantee performance consistency across volume production.
- Data Analysis & Reporting: Utilize tools such as MATLAB, JMP, Python, and Excel to analyze large data sets, derive actionable insights, and present findings through clear, concise technical documentation and presentations for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Problem Solving & Debugging: Lead root‑cause investigations for sensor anomalies, develop innovative fix‑its, and drive hardware and firmware solutions to overcome performance bottlenecks.
- Feature Innovation: Contribute ideas for new imaging features—such as enhanced HDR, computational photography improvements, and low‑light sensitivity—by translating emerging pixel capabilities into real‑world product advantages.
- Industry Trend Monitoring: Stay abreast of the latest advances in image sensor technology, market dynamics, and competitor roadmaps to inform strategic decision‑making within Apple’s camera roadmap.
- Mentorship & Knowledge Sharing: Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and act as a knowledge‑transfer hub across geographically dispersed teams.
Essential Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline; Master’s or Ph.D. is strongly preferred.
- Experience: 3–5 years of hands‑on experience in image sensor pixel development, sensor characterization, silicon bring‑up, or wafer‑level testing.
- Technical Expertise: In‑depth understanding of image sensor architectures (CMOS, BSI, stacked sensors), performance metrics (SNR, QE, dynamic range), and integration challenges within camera systems.
- Laboratory Skills: Proficiency with test equipment such as microscopes, probe stations, spectrometers, and automated test rigs; ability to design experiments that isolate pixel‑level phenomena.
- Data‑Analysis Proficiency: Advanced skill set in MATLAB, JMP, Python, or equivalent for statistical analysis, curve fitting, and visualization of sensor data.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication abilities; experience producing technical reports, design reviews, and presentations for cross‑functional audiences.
- Collaboration: Demonstrated success working in matrixed environments, influencing stakeholders across engineering, product, and supply‑chain functions.
- Problem‑Solving Mindset: Proven track record of troubleshooting complex hardware issues, devising novel solutions, and implementing corrective actions quickly and efficiently.
Preferred Qualifications & Additional Skills
- Experience with computational photography pipelines and machine‑learning‑based image processing.
- Familiarity with industry‑standard simulation tools (e.g., TCAD, Lumerical) for pixel design.
- Knowledge of low‑power design techniques and power‑budget optimization for mobile devices.
- Understanding of regulatory and safety standards related to camera hardware (e.g., FCC, CE).
- Exposure to agile development methodologies and hardware‑software co‑design practices.
- Experience in writing and maintaining test scripts using LabVIEW, Python, or similar automation frameworks.
- Prior involvement in patent filing or intellectual property generation in the field of imaging.
Core Skills & Competencies for Success
- Analytical Rigor: Ability to dissect large data sets, identify trends, and draw evidence‑based conclusions that drive design decisions.
- Innovation Drive: Curiosity to explore emerging pixel technologies and translate them into tangible product enhancements.
- Team Orientation: Strong interpersonal skills that foster trust, open dialogue, and collaborative problem solving across diverse cultures and time zones.
- Project Management: Capability to manage multiple workstreams, prioritize tasks, and meet tight milestones while maintaining high quality standards.
- Adaptability: Comfort with rapidly evolving tech landscapes and the flexibility to pivot when project requirements change.
