Why Verizon? Your Platform to Shape Tomorrow’s Connected World

At Verizon, we don’t just power networks; we power lives. As the nation’s most trusted communications provider, we enable millions of people to work, play, and stay close to what matters most—all through the seamless, secure, and innovative experiences we deliver every day. Joining our team means becoming part of a purpose‑driven culture where bold ideas are celebrated, diverse perspectives are treasured, and each employee is empowered to make a real impact on the digital landscape of the future.

Position Overview – Principal Experience Designer (Remote)

The Principal Experience Designer sits at the heart of Verizon’s Experience Design organization, leading end‑to‑end design strategy for our expansive consumer portfolio. From mobile and home connectivity solutions to entertainment, family protection services, and emerging digital products, you will translate complex business goals into intuitive, human‑centered experiences that delight millions of customers across every touchpoint.

This senior role blends visionary thinking, hands‑on design mastery, and cross‑functional leadership. You will mentor designers, champion best practices, and partner with product managers, engineers, data scientists, and external agencies to shape the future of Verizon’s omnichannel ecosystem—all while working remotely and collaborating across global teams.

Key Responsibilities – What You’ll Own and Deliver

  • Strategic Design Leadership: Define and own the experience vision for major consumer products, ensuring alignment with business objectives and brand values.
  • End‑to‑End Journey Mapping: Create service‑blueprints, journey maps, storyboards, wireframes, and high‑fidelity prototypes that capture the full lifecycle of customer interactions.
  • User Research & Insight Synthesis: Lead or collaborate on qualitative and quantitative research initiatives, translate findings into actionable design solutions, and articulate the "why" behind every design decision.
  • Cross‑Disciplinary Collaboration: Facilitate workshops, design sprints, and co‑creation sessions with product, engineering, data, marketing, and agency partners to surface problems and prototype solutions quickly.
  • Mentorship & Thought Leadership: Elevate the design practice by mentoring junior designers, establishing design systems, and sharing thought‑leadership content across the organization.
  • Process & Tool Optimization: Champion best‑in‑class design processes, champion the adoption of shared tools (Figma, Adobe Creative Cloud, Miro, etc.), and continuously improve workflow efficiency.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Present concepts, design rationales, and roadmaps to senior leaders, translating complex ideas into clear, compelling narratives that drive alignment and decision‑making.
  • Risk & Impediment Management: Identify potential blockers, proactively engage stakeholders to resolve issues, and ensure timely delivery of design milestones.
  • Metrics & Impact Evaluation: Define success metrics, analyze post‑launch performance, and iterate designs based on data‑driven insights.
  • Advocacy for Inclusion: Integrate accessibility and inclusive design principles throughout all deliverables, ensuring experiences serve diverse audiences.

Essential Qualifications – Your Minimum Requirements

  • Experience: A minimum of eight (8) years of professional experience in experience design, interaction design, service design, or a related discipline, with a proven track record of delivering large‑scale consumer products.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Design, Human‑Centered Design, Interaction Design, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
  • Portfolio: A compelling, publicly shareable portfolio that showcases end‑to‑end design work, including research, strategy, visual design, and measurable outcomes.
  • Methodologies: Demonstrated expertise in Agile and Lean product development cycles, as well as familiarity with Scrum or Kanban frameworks.
  • Tools: Advanced proficiency with industry‑standard design tools such as Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, InVision, and prototyping platforms.
  • Communication: Exceptional storytelling ability, with strong written and verbal communication skills for presenting to senior leadership and cross‑functional teams.
  • Leadership: Proven experience mentoring designers, leading design critiques, and influencing product direction without direct authority.

Preferred Qualifications – What Sets You Apart

  • Master’s degree or advanced certification in Design, Human‑Computer Interaction, or related fields.
  • Experience designing for Fortune 500 or similarly complex, matrixed organizations.
  • Successful delivery of products with a user base of 1 million+ active customers.
  • Deep familiarity with back‑end constraints (APIs, CMS, data pipelines) and front‑end capabilities (responsive design, performance optimization).
  • Track record of contributing to design systems, pattern libraries, or design ops initiatives.
  • Evidence of thought leadership through publications, conference talks, or community contributions.
  • Experience with accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1, ARIA) and inclusive design practices.
  • Data‑driven mindset with experience defining KPIs, A/B testing, and interpreting analytics to iterate on design solutions.

Core Skills & Competencies – The DNA of Success

  • Human‑Centric Thinking: Empathy‑first approach that uncovers real user needs and translates them into meaningful experiences.
  • Strategic Vision: Ability to see the “big picture” while delivering granular, high‑quality design artifacts.
  • Collaborative Facilitation: Skilled at leading workshops, brainstorming sessions, and co‑creation activities that harness collective intelligence.
  • Problem‑Solving Agility: Comfortable navigating ambiguity, iterating quickly, and steering teams toward decisive outcomes.
  • Technical Literacy: Understanding of front‑end development constraints, CMS platforms, and emerging technologies (AI, 5G, IoT).
  • Influence & Persuasion: Proven ability to build consensus, advocate for design, and secure executive buy‑in.
  • Continuous Learning: Commitment to staying current on design trends, industry standards, and emerging tools.

Career Growth & Development – Your Path Forward

Verizon invests heavily in the professional development of its people. As a Principal Experience Designer, you will have access to:

  • Executive Sponsorship: Direct exposure to senior leadership, providing visibility for high‑impact projects.

  • Mentorship Programs: Opportunities to both receive guidance from seasoned design leaders and mentor emerging talent across the organization.
  • Cross‑Functional Rotations: Optional short‑term assignments in product, engineering, or data science to broaden perspective.
  • Leadership Track: Clear pathways toward senior management roles such as Design Director, Head of Experience, or VP of Product Design.
