As a Remote Night‑Shift Production Associate, you will become a vital part of this legacy, helping us maintain the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency while enjoying the flexibility of a fully remote work arrangement.

Role Overview – What It Means to Be a Production Associate on the Night Shift

This full‑time, remote position is designed for individuals who thrive in a dynamic production environment, possess a solid mechanical aptitude, and are eager to contribute to a world‑class manufacturing operation during overnight hours. Reporting directly to the Production Supervisor, you will be responsible for operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting production equipment, ensuring that raw materials are handled precisely, and that finished products meet stringent quality specifications.

The role offers a competitive hourly wage of $21.00 with an additional $1.00 shift differential** for night‑shift work, a predictable 3‑days‑on / 2‑days‑off, 2‑days‑on / 3‑days‑off schedule, and the freedom to set up a personal, comfortable workspace at home.

Key Responsibilities – Your Daily Impact

  • Equipment Setup & Operation: Prepare and configure production machinery for each shift, ensuring all safety guards, tooling, and parameters are correctly set before start‑up.
  • Raw Material Management: Receive, inspect, and verify incoming raw materials against specifications, using calibrated measuring tools to confirm tolerance compliance.
  • Quality Assurance: Perform in‑process inspections, take dimensional measurements, and document findings to guarantee that every component meets Son Sonoco’s exacting standards.
  • Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Quickly identify and resolve minor equipment malfunctions, clear jams, splice or thread membranes, and perform routine preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Accurately complete production logs, shift reports, and incident forms, providing clear communication to the next shift and supervisory staff.
  • Training & Mentorship: Serve as a knowledge resource for newer associates, offering hands‑on guidance, coaching on best practices, and feedback to accelerate their proficiency.
  • Safety & Compliance: Uphold all safety protocols, conduct equipment safety checks, and actively participate in safety briefings and audits.
  • Continuous Improvement: Contribute ideas for process optimization, waste reduction, and efficiency gains during team huddles and Kaizen events.

Essential Qualifications – What You Must Bring

  • 2–4 years of documented experience operating industrial machinery in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently under general supervision while maintaining high levels of accuracy and productivity.
  • Strong verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively address a team via public address system or virtual meeting platforms.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and tolerance charts.
  • Basic troubleshooting aptitude – capable of diagnosing simple mechanical issues, clearing jams, and performing routine maintenance.
  • High school diploma or GED; technical or vocational training in manufacturing, engineering technology, or a related field is an advantage.
  • Commitment to adhering to a night‑shift schedule (overnight, typically 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM) with a rotating 3‑on/2‑off, 2‑on/3‑off pattern.
  • Reliable high‑speed internet connection and a suitable home workspace that meets Sonoco’s safety and ergonomic standards.

Preferred Qualifications – What Sets an Exceptional Candidate Apart

  • Prior experience in a remote or distributed manufacturing role, demonstrating self‑discipline and effective time management.
  • Certification in equipment operation (e.g., OSHA Forklift, CNC Machining, or PLC programming).
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous‑improvement methodologies.
  • Experience with electronic data capture systems, such as Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) or ERP modules.

  • Physical Stamina: Capability to stand for extended periods, lift moderate weights, and perform fine‑motor tasks.
