Job Overview

We are currently seeking a part-time Protective Services Officer I to work weekends (Saturday and Sunday) at our facility in Ft. Detrick. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing security and emergency services to our employees, visitors, and facilities. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team and contribute to the important work of the Frederick National Laboratory.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform periodic inspections of grounds and facilities, documenting findings using established procedures
  • Control access to facilities through the use of the access control system
  • Respond to scientific alarms and requests for assistance, including building let-ins, personal escorts, spill responses, and emergency responses
  • Maintain a high level of awareness of surroundings to ensure compliance with health and safety standards, including monitoring site cameras
  • Monitor systems and activity, including alarms, let-ins, and camera monitoring
  • Administer the visitor management process
  • Monitor the building automation system (BAS) and log issues in a timely manner per established procedures
  • Complete log entries for issues and responses in a timely manner and in compliance with established procedures
  • Interact with internal and external customers in a customer-focused manner
  • Interact with peers and colleagues in a professional manner to complete daily tasks and responsibilities
  • Conduct routine checks of various equipment, such as fire extinguishers, AEDs, and lights, per established procedures
  • Comply with all established Security and Emergency Services (SES) procedures in the completion of daily tasks and responsibilities
  • Adhere to schedule requirements

Qualifications and Requirements

To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:

Basic Qualifications

  • Possession of a high school diploma; foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
  • Ability to provide strong customer service in a collegial manner
  • Ability to work across multiple shifts as needed
  • Ability to attend and complete trainings, such as hazardous waste, CPR/First Aid, and security awareness
  • Familiarity with and ability to use portable devices, such as iPads and handheld radios
  • Ability to complete data entry
  • Ability to interact with customers in a professional and courteous manner, verbally or in writing
  • Ability to provide a high level of customer service in the completion of key responsibilities
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field
  • Knowledge of security protocols and procedures
  • Experience with access control systems and building automation systems
  • First aid and CPR certification
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and respond to emergency situations
