Job Summary
We're seeking an exceptionally skilled and inspired Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our mechanical design group, you'll play a crucial role in designing, developing, and testing innovative products for the home, including batteries, solar equipment, EV chargers, and energy management systems. Your expertise will help us drive success in the development of our products, ensuring they meet the highest standards of quality, performance, and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and Development: Demonstrate and plan mechanical systems and parts, including plastic, metal, and sheet metal parts, conveyors, protectors, wire-tackles, clasp, and other components.
- Mechanical Design Analysis: Conduct mechanical design analysis, including thermal, structural, assembly, and test planning.
- Problem-Solving: Resolve packaging issues, including segregation, EMC, RF transmission, thermal management, interconnection, shock and vibration management, and more.
- Test Planning and Execution: Use design standards to create test plans, identify root causes for field or test failures, and implement fixes.
- Documentation and Collaboration: Create drawing bundles and instructions for proper assembly and manufacturing of designs, and collaborate with other mechanical, systems, electrical, control, manufacturing test, and test engineers to meet design and program needs.
What You'll Bring
To succeed in this role, you'll need to bring a deep understanding of the material science of parts used in mechanical design (metals, enclosures, plastics, connectors, gaskets, channels, and more). You'll also need to demonstrate:
- 2+ years of experience: Using 3D mechanical design and analysis tools (CATIA v6, HyperWorks experience preferred).
- Strong Communication Skills: Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to Work in a Fast-Paced Environment: Capacity to work in a fast-paced and challenging environment.
Favored Abilities
We're looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:
- Experience with CATIA v6: While not required, experience with CATIA v6 is highly preferred.
- DFMEA, DVP&R, Failure Analysis, and Statistical Process Control: Experience with these tools and techniques is highly valued.
- GD&T, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing: Understanding of GD&T principles and practices.
- Matlab, Labview, and Python: Working knowledge of these programming languages.
- Experience with Global Health and Safety Regulations: Experience with designing products that meet worldwide health and safety regulations.
- Electrical Design Fundamentals: Basic understanding of electrical design principles.
