NGS Bioinformatics Scientist (Remote)

Job Description MyOme is seeking a bioinformatician to join the team and help expand the role of genetic information in personal and family health decisions. You will collaborate with the research and engineering teams to develop and implement analytic pipelines, computational analysis, and interpretation of biological data. We are looking for an experienced bioinformatician or data scientist with a strong background in next-generation sequencing analysis and algorithm development including long read sequencing. This role will report directly to a Senior Bioinformatics Scientist. Responsibilities • Work with bioinformaticians and engineers to manage, process, analyze and interpret genomic data • Identify and test tools for NGS (including short- and long-read whole genome sequencing) data analysis including structural variant detection • Develop novel algorithms to combine short- and long-read sequencing data • Design and implement analysis pipelines that include quality control processes • Help design and conduct clinical validation study plans and reports • Work with our Clinical Lab Director to make sure all algorithms comply with regulatory standards Skills and Experience • Master's degree (PhD preferred) in computational biology, computer science or a related field • 3+ years experience in industry (or doctoral work) analyzing NGS data • Coding fluency such as Python or R • Experience with packages such as bwa, bcftools, samtools, minimap • Ability to implement new tools and evaluate open source tools quickly • Familiarity with genomic databases such as NCBI, Ensembl, gnomAD • Experience with detecting and interpreting different types of genetic variants • Experience managing computational tasks in a cloud environment (AWS or GCP). • Solid understanding of the Linux environment and shell scripting • Experience working with long-read technology (Oxford Nanopore, PacBio) • Experience with Nextflow a plus • Excellent communication and presentation skills • Experience working in a remote team (preferred) Location, Compensation, and Benefits • Location: Remote-friendly with preference for Bay Area.
