Master Teacher (with Assistant Curator rank) - Art Museum
About the position The Master Teacher (with the rank of Assistant Curator) at the University of Wyoming Art Museum is a full-time position focused on developing and implementing educational programs for Pre-K through 12th grade and family audiences. This role involves curriculum design, teaching, and collaboration with various stakeholders to enhance the museum's educational outreach. The Master Teacher will also oversee part-time teaching artists and manage various educational initiatives, ensuring alignment with the museum's educational philosophy. Responsibilities • Coordinate and administer educational programs for diverse audiences. , • Research, design, and implement Pre-K - 12 educational programs, including exhibition-aligned tours and summer camps. , • Develop and implement evaluation methods for program success. , • Recruit, train, and manage part-time teaching artists for educational programs. , • Teach one section per academic year of EDEL 2170, Art in the Elementary School. , • Maintain program-related supplies, equipment, and educational materials. , • Prepare written materials and photos for marketing and publicity needs. , • Participate in community activities to promote UWAM programs. , • Engage in collaborative research on the museum's role in education and report findings. , • Develop and maintain relationships with community stakeholders and educators. , • Document and report program activities and accomplishments to the Director. , • Collaborate on budget planning and departmental policies. Requirements • Master's degree in studio art, art education, art history, or related fields, or equivalent experience. , • Knowledge and experience with Pre-K - 12 education standards and formal classroom settings. , • Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills. , • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. , • Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy. Nice-to-haves • Knowledge of museum professional standards. , • Demonstrated studio techniques and abilities to manage busy studio space. , • Ability to work with a wide variety of audiences. , • Ability to work with all ages from pre-K through older adults. , • Ability to collaborate interdepartmentally towards shared goals. , • Knowledge of VTS or Object-Based teaching and learning. , • Successful track record of designing and implementing teacher training or professional development opportunities. , • Experience managing and mentoring part-time or contract museum teachers/gallery guides.
