Tax Associate

The Tax Associate will be responsible for the tax compliance function of the corporate tax team, preparing complex corporate tax returns and assisting in corporate tax audits, as well as preparing tax provision calculations for financial reporting.
Responsibilities
- Prepare Canadian income tax returns including T2, T3, T5013, T1134, T1135, country-by-country reporting and election forms
- Prepare the annual Canadian Depository for Securities (CDS) reporting for Chemtrade Logistics Income Fund (re: taxable allocation to Unitholders)
- Prepare supporting analysis required to maintain the transfer pricing documentation, including quarterly estimate and annual calculation
- Manage indirect tax compliance, including preparation and filing of GST/HST, QST, and other provincial sales tax returns
- Monitor changes in indirect tax legislation and assess impact on business operations
- Communicate with Canada Revenue Agency and other provincial tax authorities in connection with income and sales tax audits, tax notices and other request
- Support US tax initiatives and assist with US tax compliance as may be needed from time to time
- Ensure appropriate internal controls are executed and followed
- Assist with the preparation of quarterly and annual tax provision in Longview Tax
- Assist with the preparation book-to-return true-up adjustment
- Support indirect tax accounting, including reconciliation of GST/HST accounts and review of tax accruals
- Post related tax journal entries
- Assist with tax planning and transaction projects, including tax research
- Respond to ad hoc tax queries from internal parties
- Perform other duties as assigned
Skills
- Preferably CPA
- University Degree in economics, commerce, business, or accounting
- Completion or enrolment in the CPA In-Depth Tax Course is an asset
- 1-2 years' experience in Canadian and/or US corporate tax
- Strong analytical skills, initiative, and attention to detail
- Advanced computer skills, including high proficiency in Taxprep and Excel (Intermediate to Advanced level)
- Experience with SAP and Longview Tax an asset
- Must have strong work ethics, willingness to learn, able to follow standard filing procedure
- Self-motivated with good time management skills, enabling completion of responsibilities within deadlines
