[Remote] Bond Underwriter I (Remote)
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Selective Insurance is a midsized U.S. domestic property and casualty insurance company with nearly 100 years of strong financial performance. The Bond Underwriter I role involves evaluating risks, performing credit and financial analysis, and completing underwriting on bond contracts while ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
- Perform financial analysis, credit analysis, and risk assessment of bond contracts to determine underwriting exposure through the use and interpretation of financial-based computer applications
- Complete underwriting on new business and renewal bond contracts. May increase renewal premium by cross-selling additional coverage, products or service
- Follow, and be able to research, underwriting rules, guidelines, insurance laws and regulations, and rating manuals
- Process renewal form letters, status inquiry reviews, and revisions. Send out supplies, kits, and guides to assigned agents
- Provide guidance to agents, and to other departments, regarding various underwriting information. Effectively communicate underwriting decisions and appetite to agents. Reinforce the ease of doing business and franchise value with Selective by meeting or exceeding agent expectations and service quality on a consistent basis
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers. Communicate openly and in a timely fashion. Participate in the development of team goals and work diligently to achieve them. Support all team decisions
- Conduct continuous profit and growth analysis by territory and agency as assigned. Monitor premium retention with the use of electronic reporting tools
Skills
- Excellent analytical skills; oral and written communication skills
- Ability to market and negotiate effectively with internal and external customers
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
- College degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
- 1-3 years accounting and/or financial statement analysis preferred
- Surety and Fidelity underwriting experience preferred
