Entry Level Transportation Engineer

VHB is an inspired and innovative team of engineers, scientists, planners, and designers who partner with clients in various industries. The Transportation Designer role focuses on planning, design, and construction support of traffic signals and advanced transportation technology initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Work within a team of professionals to develop design plans and specifications for a variety of Transportation Systems and communication equipment & infrastructure
• Development of Traffic Signal Design Plans and Specifications for state and municipal clients
• Development of Temporary Traffic Control Plans (TTCP), including traditional and smart work zones and construction phase service planning for state, municipal and private clients
• Systems Engineering documents for transportation technology projects following the FHWA Systems Engineering Process
• Design of ITS equipment and communications infrastructure including fiber optic and wireless technologies, Closed Circuit Television (CCTV), Dynamic Message Signs (DMS), Wrong Way Vehicle Detection Systems, and various sensor technologies
• Perform engineering field work as needed (various field equipment testing, utility and infrastructure verification, taking measurements and pictures at field sites, etc.)
• Writing technical reports and memoranda

Skills

• BS in Civil Engineering with a focus on Transportation or Electrical Engineering, or related field
• Interest in working across multiple disciplines concurrently with a diversity of assignments
• Experience developing civil design and construction documents – preference given for state DOT experience, a plus
• Technical Report Writing experience
• Ability to read and comprehend design and construction specifications and plans
• AutoCAD and/or Microstation
• 0-1 year of professional experience with a desire to learn the planning, design, and construction of transportation equipment and/or communications systems (cellular, fiber, wireless)
• EIT
