[Remote] Queen's Genetically Engineered Machine (QGEM) - Wet Lab Team Lead (SWEP)
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. The Engineering Society of Queen's University is seeking a Wet Lab Team Lead for the Queen's Genetically Engineered Machine (QGEM) design team. The role involves leading in-person wet lab operations, mentoring team members, and contributing to project development and competition deliverables.
Responsibilities
- Act as the primary lead for in-person wet lab operations and experimental design
- Co-design, execute, and troubleshoot all wet lab experiments (cloning, culturing, plasmid construction, expression assays, data collection)
- Oversee day-to-day lab operations
- Lead, train, and mentor the Wet Lab team general members
- Co-lead project development and experimental decisions
- Provide regular progress updates and contribute to competition deliverables (documentation, manuscript/abstract, website, pitch materials & more)
Skills
- Experience with wet lab techniques (i.e. cloning, culturing, plasmid construction, expression assays) is an asset
- Understanding of experimental design and the scientific method
- Strong leadership, collaboration, and critical thinking
- Candidates must be located in Kingston and available full-time from May to September 2026
- Demonstrated interest in synthetic biology, microbiology, biochemistry or related fields is considered a very strong asset
