Nursing Informatics Summer Clinical Intern
Parkview Health is seeking a Nursing Informatics Intern to gain hands-on experience in the field of Informatics. The intern will support nursing staff in their use of technology, including electronic medical records and clinical mobility devices, while assisting with projects such as chart audits and data collection.
Responsibilities
- Assist with a variety of projects, including chart audits, data collection, and workflow analysis
- Visit inpatient units to support nurses in the use of clinical tools like downtime computers and mobile communication devices
- Participate in testing sessions to gather feedback from nursing staff
- Complete audits, analyze data, and present findings in graphical formats using tools like Microsoft Excel
Skills
- Applicants should be enrolled in a nursing or informatics degree program
- Comfortable working a hybrid schedule, Monday through Friday, for up to 40 hours per week
- Typical hours are approximately 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with some flexibility
- Must meet one of the following requirements: current CNA, EMT, or Paramedic certification or must take Parkview's Patient Care Foundations course at time of hire
- 2 years' experience in a healthcare related field; training time will be determined based on experience
- Currently enrolled in nursing school having completed first clinical rotations if hired prior to 12/3/18
- Two (2) years military medical experience will be accepted
- Must have current CPR at or above the Healthcare Provider level from the American Heart Association or obtain within 60 days of hire
- Must have good verbal and written communication skills
- Must have a working knowledge of computer skills and applications
- Demonstrates ability to critically think
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds and assist with 100 pounds
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools—particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Ability to generate calculations, pivot tables, and data visualizations in Excel
- CNA/EMT/Paramedic certification preferred or must have the equivalent of health care experience and education
- Two (2) years previous experience in a nursing support role OR a nursing student currently enrolled in an accredited program (ASN or BSN) having completed their first clinical rotation on an extended care or inpatient nursing unit (nursing school transcripts required)
- Acceptable accrediting agencies are Commission on Collegiate Education in Nursing (CCNE) or Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN)
- If assigned to the Parkview Randallia Family Birthing Center must be bonded as a notary public within 6 months of hire
- Previous experience is preferred in direct patient care through work and/or school program
