Global Health Internship
Costello Medical provides scientific support to the healthcare industry in the analysis, interpretation, and communication of clinical and health economic data. The Global Health Internship offers individuals from low- or middle-income countries the opportunity to gain skills in evidence-based medicine by working on a healthcare problem relevant to their community.
Responsibilities
- You will have the opportunity to identify and work on a project exploring and tackling a health-related issue relevant to your community; this may involve performing systematic searches of medical literature, assimilating clinical and cost-effectiveness evidence, and analyzing and creatively presenting data in a variety of formats
- Conducting a systematic literature review to assess the effect of bereavement care for parents after stillbirth in Ghana
- Developing an educational toolkit to improve the management of newborn infections in low- and middle-income countries
- Assessing the cost-effectiveness of cervical cancer screening in Kenya
Skills
- Be a national of a low- or middle-income country (as this internship will be based in our US office, we are especially keen to work on projects that focus on the Americas. However, we would consider candidates from any other region that meets the criteria)
- Hold a post-secondary degree directly related to the field of training obtained outside the United States. This could include early-career health practitioners, health-related charity or NGO workers, health researchers or other health professionals
- Have at least one year of prior related work experience in their occupational field acquired outside the United States. This could include early-career health practitioners, health-related charity or NGO workers, health researchers or other health professionals
- Have an idea for a global health-related project which they would like to work on, including a well-considered project approach
- Be fluent in written and spoken English and have good numeracy skills
- Be able to prioritize own tasks and workload
- Have a 'can do' approach, and initiative, positivity and creativity
- Be able to work in a team and with an excellent level of productivity
