Stormwater Infrastructure Engineer
Arlington County Government is seeking an experienced Stormwater Infrastructure Engineer to work in the Office of Sustainability and Environmental Management as part of the Stormwater Infrastructure Team. The role involves providing professional engineering expertise, project management, and administrative support while collaborating with County staff, the public, and external agencies.
Responsibilities
- Applying standard engineering principles and practices to troubleshoot and resolve system problems during normal and emergency operations
- Planning, preparing and/or reviewing design and construction engineering plans for short-and long-term civil engineering projects
- Reviewing/interpreting new regulations, technical information, and other material to determine impact on work unit and to recommend methods for implementation
- Reviewing site plans/engineering construction plans/contract plans to provide comments, and recommends modifications
- Reviewing public right-of-way permits to ensure proposed work under such permits does not conflict with, or damage existing public water, sanitary and storm infrastructure
- Performing site visits before, during, and after plan review process to ensure familiarity with all aspects of site design and constructability
- Reviewing the work of outside consultants who provide design services on projects
- Instructing and training other engineers, technicians, and trades employees in the maintenance, operation and application of a variety of administrative and/or operational systems
- Reviewing master plans and translating information to short-term priorities and needs; and
- Providing consultation to other staff, citizens, and developers regarding assigned area
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or other applicable engineering discipline
- No experience is required for Engineer I
- Significant professional-level engineering work experience OR Considerable professional-level engineering work experience plus at least 1 of the required certifications for Engineer II
- Progressively responsible significant professional-level engineering work experience OR Significant professional-level engineering work experience plus at least 2 of the required certifications for Engineer III
- Experience may not be substituted for the Engineering Degree requirement
- A Master's Degree in Civil Engineering may be substituted for one year of Engineering experience
- Valid driver license, and must provide or authorize Arlington County to obtain a copy of official state/district driving record
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the Commonwealth of Virginia or a state with reciprocity
- Preparing construction contract documents for bidding process
- Using PCSWMM software or other similar variants for stormwater, wastewater, watershed, and water distribution systems modeling
- Conducting presentation to stakeholders, including citizens and government officials
- Grant application writing and grant funding administration experience
- Project Management Professional (PMP)
- Certified Flood Plain Manager
- Arlington County Project officer
- VDOT Advanced Work Zone Traffic Control
