Tennis Apparel Brand Strategist (Short Sprint) – Final Name Decision (Immediate Start)
Job Title
Brand Strategist (Short Sprint) – Final Brand Name Decision (Immediate Start)
Job Description
I’m building a premium, design-led consumer tennis brand in the sports / lifestyle space. Product design is already underway, and the brand name selected in this sprint will be used immediately to begin logo design and brand execution.
This engagement is only for brand positioning and naming strategy. I am not hiring graphic designers for this scope.
I’m looking for an experienced brand strategist with a track record of helping brands choose names that resonate with early adopters and scale over time.
Objective
The goal is to arrive at a single final brand name within three days.
A lot of previous work has been done, including naming shortlists and directions, and we need you to take us from 80% to 100%.
This is an internal decision-making sprint.
Engagement Structure
Start: Immediate (this weekend, start on Saturday or Sunday, just a few hours each day)
Timeline: 3 days
Total time: Approximately 5–10 hours
Format:
• Three live calls (kickoff, alignment, final decision)
• Independent work between calls
Please apply only if you are available to start immediately.
Scope of Work
You will:
• Review existing materials (brand vision, strategy, competitors, naming explorations)(a significant amount of work has been done)
• Assess naming territories for early-adopter appeal and long-term scalability
• Pressure-test existing name candidates
• Help resolve key positioning questions (serious vs. playful, performance vs. culture, etc.)
• Define a clear naming direction
• Guide the team to one final name
This role is about making decisions, not expanding options.
Trademark Context
• Initial trademark searches have already been done
• I have a trademark attorney if needed
• This scope does not include legal clearance or filing
Deliverables
• A concise internal summary (1–2 pages or equivalent) covering:
• Positioning narrative
• Positioning matrix (does not need beautiful graphic design)
• Decision criteria
• Recommendation of one final name (arrived at during calls)
What This Is Not
• Not logo, typography, or visual design
• Not a graphic design role
Ideal Candidate
• Senior brand strategist, consultant, or founder/operator
• Proven experience leading brand naming decisions
• Strong judgment and clear point of view. We want your POV on where the opportunity is amongst competitors and given the brand's unique capabilities.
• Comfortable working fast and lean and committing to a recommendation
Budget & Timing
Estimated time: 5–10 hours
Timeline: 3 days
Budget: Open to senior-level rates
How to Apply
Please include:
• A brief note on your experience with brand naming
• 1–2 relevant examples of past work
• Confirmation that you are available to start immediately this weekend and complete a 3-day sprint by Monday/Tuesday next week
This is a real project launching late summer and we are moving quickly but strategically. Thank you for your interest!
