Position Overview
Under the direction of the Pharmacy Supervisor/Manager, the Pharmacy Technician – Data Entry Specialist is responsible for the accurate entry, verification, and processing of prescription orders according to client specifications and regulatory standards. This role serves as a critical bridge between prescribers, pharmacy staff, and patients, ensuring that every medication journey begins with flawless data integrity.
Key Responsibilities
- Verify prescription details—including prescriber name, patient demographics, medication name, dosage, quantity, refill count, lot number, and expiration date—prior to data entry.
- Communicate proactively with Louisville arenaflex Pharmacy representatives to resolve discrepancies, confirm medication availability, and coordinate patient care.
- Adhere strictly to HIPAA, state privacy statutes, and all applicable federal regulations throughout the data entry process.
- Maintain precise records, including prescription logs, authorization files, and audit trails, to support compliance audits and quality assurance reviews.
- Evaluate completed prescriptions and authorizations for completeness, ensuring all required information aligns with regulatory standards.
- Conduct follow‑up on outstanding prescriptions, escalating issues to pharmacists or senior technicians as needed.
- Identify and troubleshoot order delays, employing problem‑solving techniques to minimize impact on patient therapy.
- Maintain a clean, organized workstation that meets infection‑control and safety guidelines.
- Execute routine pharmacy functions such as inventory checks, patient history reviews for duplicate orders, and documentation of any medication warnings.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by suggesting workflow enhancements and participating in team huddles.
Minimum Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Current Kentucky Pharmacy Technician Registration.
- Must be at least 18 years of age, as required by Kentucky law.
Preferred Education & Experience
- At least one (1) year of experience in a specialty pharmacy setting.
- National certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or another recognized certifying agency.
- Experience using pharmacy management software (e.g., PioneerRx, QS/1, or similar platforms).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)
- Strong grasp of medical terminology, including sig codes, Roman numerals, brand and generic medication names, and general pharmacy language.
- Proficiency with computer operating systems, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe PDF, and collaborative tools such as Teams or Slack.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, enabling clear interaction with prescribers, patients, and internal teams.
- Sharp attention to detail and the ability to recognize subtle differences in medication names, dosages, and numeric identifiers.
- Solid basic math skills for dose calculations and inventory management.
- Demonstrated problem‑solving capabilities and organizational acumen to manage high‑volume prescription queues.
