GDIT is seeking a Healthcare Fraud, Waste, and Abuse (FWA) Intern to support the development of FWA detection, prevention, and reporting training materials for the World Trade Center (WTC) Health Program. This role provides operational support by educating internal operational staff and external Program providers on the current healthcare FWA landscape, common schemes, and reporting protocols. The intern will work closely with the WTC Health Program’s training lead and FWA Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to develop digestible trainings materials, SOPs, and documentation.
The World Trade Center Health Program is a limited federal health program administered by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The Program provides no-cost medical monitoring and treatment for certified WTC-related health conditions to individuals affected by the 9/11 attacks.
HOW AN FWA INTERN WILL MAKE AN IMPACT
Support the development and review of FWA training materials based on industry’s best practices
Contribute to the development of reports and dashboards highlighting anomalies, risks, and key metrics
Help maintain documentation, standard operating procedures, and compliance records
Collaborate with operations, compliance, and finance teams to support program integrity initiatives
Assist with ad hoc analyses and special projects related to FWA prevention and detection
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED
Education
Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Finance, Data Analytics, Criminal Justice, or a related field
Required Skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Attention to detail and ability to identify patterns or anomalies in data
Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel (sorting, filtering, formulas)
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a structured environment
Preferred Qualifications
Interest in healthcare compliance, fraud prevention, or program integrity
Exposure to healthcare claims, billing, or insurance concepts (coursework or internship experience)
Familiarity with data analysis or visualization tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI)
Interest in federal health programs or public sector work

Previous work experience related to your field of study.
Experience supporting or developing content and communications products, such as emails, infographics, web content, and letters.
Familiarity with writing, graphic design, and/or web content management systems.
