About The Role: Director, Data Analytics

We are seeking a visionary and results-driven Director of Data Analytics to lead our Analytics and Business Intelligence initiatives. This pivotal position is part of the Store Automation and Innovation team and will be responsible for developing a comprehensive suite of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of our strategic initiatives. As the leader of this function, you will define critical metrics and oversee the development of robust data pipelines and dynamic dashboards that distribute these measurements across the organization.

You will report directly to the Senior Vice President, Store Innovation and Automation, and play a crucial role in communicating progress toward our strategic goals to executive leadership on a regular basis. What You'll Do

As our Director of Data Analytics, you will be entrusted with substantial responsibilities that drive organizational success. Your daily activities will include:

  • Data Source Identification and Management: You will be responsible for identifying data sources, requiring deep knowledge of functional business domains and scenarios, categories of data and where they reside, business data requirements, database technologies, and data quality standards. Your expertise will ensure that we have access to the right data at the right time.
  • Business Problem Analysis: Examine complex business problems within your discipline and question assumptions to help identify root causes. You will recognize and recommend approaches to resolving business issues while establishing relevant expectations based on established progress guidelines and key metrics. Your analytical mindset will be crucial in turning challenges into opportunities.
  • Business Case Evaluation: Assess proposed business cases for projects and initiatives, translate business requirements into strategies, and align the team to the business strategy while executing expectations. You will work closely with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure data-driven decision-making throughout the organization.
  • Data Visualization and Storytelling: Identify and recommend the most suitable visualization tools based on context, and define application designs based on client requirements. This includes building compelling stories based on context, presenting to and influencing diverse audiences using appropriate data visualization techniques, and adapting communication styles based on stakeholders' needs.
  • Strategic Direction and Leadership: Provide overall direction by analyzing business objectives and customer needs. This encompasses developing, delivering, building support for, and implementing business processes, plans, and practices. You will analyze costs and estimates and integrate them into business planning while determining and supporting resource requirements.
  • Relationship Building and Community Engagement: Develop and leverage internal and external networks and organizations, lead strategic community outreach and involvement initiatives, and support partners while respecting and adhering to the company's standards of integrity and ethics.

What You'll Bring

Required Technical Skills

  • Advanced SQL Proficiency: Deep expertise in SQL for complex data extraction, transformation, and analysis
  • Python Programming: Strong coding abilities in Python for data manipulation, analysis, and automation
  • Big Data Technologies: Experience with big data tools such as Hive, Spark, or similar platforms
  • Dashboarding Tools: Proficiency with visualization and dashboarding tools, particularly Looker, Tableau, or Power BI
  • Workflow Automation: Experience with scheduling and workflow tools such as Airflow, Luigi, or similar platforms

Essential Competencies

  • Executive Communication: Exceptional ability to communicate the details of complex metrics to C-suite executives clearly and persuasively
  • Business Translation: Capacity to connect data details and translate their impact on business outcomes into actionable insights
  • Metric Development: Proven experience developing new metrics to track business impact and measure success
  • Team Leadership: Demonstrated experience leading and mentoring a team of analysts and data professionals
  • Multi-Source Integration: Expertise in building dashboards and reports that aggregate data from multiple sources into cohesive, actionable intelligence

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background or formal education in statistics, mathematics, or a related quantitative field
  • Experience with machine learning and data science techniques
  • Advanced degree in Business Analytics, Data Science, or similar discipline
  • Retail or e-commerce industry experience preferred
  • Experience with cloud-based data platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
