Position Overview
The Patient Account Specialist is responsible for handling incoming calls for our patients in a remote call center environment. This role requires passionate and energetic individuals who are great listeners and can multitask while creating a safe and courteous experience for our patients. The Patient Account Specialist will support billing, insurance, and other inquiries from our patients, ensuring that every interaction is handled with professionalism, empathy, and efficiency.
Hours for this position: 11:00 AM - 7:30 PM EST
Key Responsibilities
Patient Call Handling
- Receives inbound calls from patients to assist in answering their billing questions in a call center environment
- Responds promptly and professionally to patient inquiries regarding billing, insurance coverage, and account status
- Communicates effectively to resolve billing issues and provides clear, accurate information
- Builds rapport with patients by being courteous, friendly, and empathetic
- Maintains professional and respectful relationships by presenting the Business Office, clinic, physicians, and other team members in a positive light
- Refers all difficult calls or situations to the team lead or manager for escalation when necessary
- Ensures each patient feels valued and heard throughout their interaction
Account Management
- Sends issues to the Accounts Receivable (AR) Team for further处理
- Takes payments and sets up payment plans for patients with outstanding balances
- Reviews accounts with outstanding balances or incorrect balances
- Must be able to multi-task and problem-solve in a timely manner
- Accurately documents all patient interactions and account updates in our system
- Identifies trends in patient inquiries and communicates feedback to improve processes
Additional Duties
- Other duties as assigned by management
- Participates in team meetings and training sessions
- Stays up-to-date with company policies, procedures, and billing practices
- Maintains confidentiality and complies with HIPAA regulations at all times
Essential Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent experience required
- Call center experience is strongly preferred
- Medical billing experience is a plus
- Experience in the healthcare industry is preferred
- Exceptional communication skills – both oral and written
- Strong active listening skills with the ability to understand patient needs
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to multitask and manage multiple inquiries simultaneously
- Ability to solve problems in a timely manner
- Must be self-motivated to stay on task and be available for routine check-ins
- Must have a quiet, HIPAA-compliant area with no distractions for working remotely
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
- Must reside in the United States
