RN Nurse Educator

• 350493 Shift: Days Schedule: Monday-Friday (No Weekends!!) Newport News Behavioral Health Center is a 108 bed intensive and highly structured residential treatment for psychiatric and behavioral health needs of adolescent males and females ages 11-18yrs. Newport News has an on-site certified school, art and music therapists, and vocational programming. Newport News, VA is a beautiful seaside city, rich in maritime history and conveniently located to DC and other major North Eastern cities. Summary of Core Job Functions: The Nursing Educator is responsible for assisting the DON in evaluating, reviewing, designing and implementing hospital training events with respect to all RN/LPN/MHT staff for required training. Also provides, on an as-needed basis, patient nursing assessments. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Regularly facilitates and/or conducts required training classes with all Nursing Services staff. • Works closely with the DON and Nursing Supervisors to review current education and training needs. • Recommends improvements to training programs as needed or as identified. • Provides on-going nursing education to staff on a variety of topics as directly relates to performance improvement initiatives, JACHO and other State or Federal Regulatory Agency standards/requirements. • Provides feedback to the PI Committee, reporting staff education and recommendations for improvements. • Works in collaborative manner with the Infection Control Nurse to identify and assist in training as needed. • Researches current best practices among other institutions/facilities to ensure hospital is providing most recent and best practices with respect to staff education and training. • Meets with all new nursing staff new employees to ensure a complete orientation to nursing services. • Maintains knowledge of the TERM document and each element of the document as it relates to the position. BSN of an accredited school of nursing required; MSN preferred. Experience in Psychiatric Nursing desirable. Minimum of three (3) years direct clinical experience preferred in a psychiatric or mental health setting, with direct experience in staff education, nursing practices, patient assessments, education concepts, practices and procedures.
