- Experience with managing POSIX and ACL's permission on systems and storage.
- Deep Knowledge of Linux systems
- Knowledge of SAN (Storage Area Network), Object and block storage systems.
- Proven experience with managing and configuring storage systems that support NFS and SMB protocols.
- Knowledge about networking related to storage networks and experience supporting storage switches.
- Experience with Windows operating systems.
- Experience with scripting and automation.
- Strong understanding of storage principles and experience with supporting storage systems.
- Experience with different cloud storage and platforms, preferably Amazon Web Services.
- Experience with supporting applications that contain PII or PHI data.
- Understanding of ITIL principles, including incident, request, change and release management.
- Proficiency in using IT Service Management systems (ITSM) like ServiceNow.
- Excellent documentation skills.
- Preferred knowledge of VAST and Dell Storage platforms.
- Understanding of using and managing files/code in version control systems like Git
- Proven experience in troubleshooting system issues.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Detail-oriented person.
- Proven experience managing Storage, Backup, and Linux systems in development and production environments.
- Experience with supporting NAS, Object and SAN storage systems.
- A bachelor's degree in MIS or Information Technology preferred or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of two years' post-secondary education or relevant work experience
- Completion of Harvard IT Academy specified foundational courses (or external equivalent) preferred
- Occasionally required to work outside of normal business hours, and may be called during off hours
- Participate fully in building, configuring, and running Research Storage infrastructure at scale.
- Monitor and maintain the health and integrity of Research Storage systems, including upgrading and patching.
- Assist in defining and tracking performance metrics to ensure efficient current and future use of IT resources.
- Support and collaborate with researchers and other key IT (e.g. Network, Security and Data Center) partners in a timely manner.
- Contribute best practices documentation and knowledge transfer.
- Abide by and follow the Harvard University IT technical standards, policies, and Code of Conduct.
- Responsible for the maintenance, configuration, and reliability of Research Applications.
- Act as subject matter expert on research storage systems and be responsible for support.
- Manage incidents, requests, and changes via ServiceNow.
- Work with other HMS IT engineering teams on the architecture and design of the Research infrastructure environment.
- Assist with configuration, testing, and validation during implementation and upgrade phases for systems supported by the group.
- Provide technical support, troubleshooting, and monitoring of the storage systems and platforms.
- Work on team projects related to the implementation and enhancement of storage and backup-related applications and systems.
- Assist with developing and updating automation scripts.
- Participate in off-hours on-call schedule.
