Empower the Next Generation of Tech Leaders as a Discord Moderator with Girls Who Code

We're seeking a highly motivated and experienced Discord Moderator to join our team for the 2025 Pathways program. As a key member of our community, you'll play a vital role in creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging online environment for high school girls and non-binary students to learn, grow, and thrive. As a Discord Moderator, you'll be responsible for moderating our Discord server, supporting student onboarding, and facilitating community events. You'll work closely with our team to ensure a positive and productive experience for all members, and provide feedback and suggestions to improve our programs. If you're a strong communicator with excellent time management and organizational skills, and you believe that all girls can code, we want to hear from you.

Program Details:

  • Average working hours: 20 hours/week
  • Start date: June 2, 2025 (training and staff role assignment begins in early June, student role assignment begins in late June/early July)
  • Program dates: June 30, 2025
  • End date: Programs end August 8, 2025; last working day for offboarding and wrap-up August 15, 2025

Responsibilities:

  • Attend Discord Moderator pre-training and co-facilitate the Discord training session for your program
  • Support student onboarding to the GWC Discord server by manually verifying usernames and assigning student roles
  • Moderate and ensure a safe and productive Discord server environment
  • Support community building by posting engaging questions, updates, and responding to student posts
  • Communicate regularly with your manager and team to review feedback, share server notes, and plan for next steps
  • Collaborate with other Discord Moderators and teaching staff to troubleshoot issues and provide support

Qualifications:

  • Rising senior in college (or equivalent level of experience) at the start of the program
  • Ability to commit to working up to 20 hours per week during each week of the program
  • Passion for building a supportive online community for young people
  • Prior experience moderating online communities (Discord, Twitch, etc.) or comparable, transferable experience
  • Experience and comfort with using Discord features and functionality
  • Strong time management, organizational, and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with Girls Who Code programs
  • Experience with at least one programming language (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python)
  • Previous teaching, tutoring, or mentoring experience, especially in computer science
  • Experience facilitating and discussing various computer science topics
