Business Writer for Higher Education Courses
Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Business Writer to create high-quality written content for online higher education courses. The ideal candidate will have expertise in adult education, accreditation documentation (preferably DEAC), and instructional writing for business-related degree programs.
This contract includes work writing content for accreditation documentation and course content — applicants must be comfortable with detailed, compliance-driven writing as well as creative instructional design.
Key Responsibilities:
• Write and edit structured, research-based, and engaging course content, including lesson narratives, readings, discussion prompts, and assessments.
• Prepare and refine written materials for accreditation purposes, ensuring alignment with institutional and accreditor requirements.
• Apply adult learning principles to design content that is relevant, practical, and accessible for non-traditional working adult learners.
• Organize and format content within a Learning Management System (preferably Canvas).
• Collaborate with team members via Microsoft Teams and Outlook.
• Meet multiple deadlines while maintaining high quality standards.
Skills & Competencies:
• Exceptional writing and editing skills to produce structured, research-based, and engaging course content.
• Strong understanding of adult education principles for higher education and online learning.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Excellent organizational skills—well-disciplined, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple deadlines.
• Experience with Asana (optional, but a plus) for task management.
• Ability to work independently while maintaining strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Capable of working remotely in a dedicated workspace.
Experience (Required):
• Proven experience writing course content for higher education online courses.
• Experience preparing accreditation documentation (DEAC experience preferred).
• Experience working with Learning Management Systems (preferably Canvas).
• Experience utilizing Microsoft Teams and Outlook (preferred).
What We Seek:
• Current or former higher education instructor, faculty member, or administrator.
• Proven Higher Education Course Author.
Note: Primary/Secondary (K–12) teaching experience alone will not be sufficient for this position.
Education:
• Master’s degree in Education, Post-Secondary and Adult Education, Business, or a related field.
• Other master’s degrees (e.g., MBA, MFA) may be considered if accompanied by significant higher ed writing experience.

Pay: $27.93 - $31.94 per hour
