Roles & Responsibilities:
We are inviting applications for a Programmer Analyst I position in applied machine learning with a specific interest in applications to genomics and electronic health records (EHR). The Pejaver Lab is an interdisciplinary group with diverse but interlinked research interests related to biomedical data science and machine learning methodology development. The position will be situated at the Institute for Genomic Health (IGH) at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in Manhattan, New York, NY, USA but hybrid/remote work options can be considered. IGH aims to close the gap between genomic research and healthcare through discoveries and algorithms focused on diverse populations. Data resources include (a) Access to >8 million patient records in the Mount Sinai Data Warehouse and (b) The BioMe Biobank Program with >30,000 patients with whole exome sequencing data linked to longitudinal clinical data. Mount Sinai also houses Minerva, a world-class high-performance computing resource, with specifications that include over 2 petaflops of compute cores and nearly 90 GPU cores, among others.
The applications that the Pejaver Lab is interested in developing methods for require innovative problem formulations, novel learning algorithms and/or customized objective functions. We also particularly emphasize end-to-end implementation of our methods, with the aim of increased adoption and improved decision support in genomic research and healthcare settings. Topics of interest include few-shot learning, similarity learning, interpretable machine learning, and model calibration
Responsibilities
• Modifying and/or implementing code for published machine learning algorithms and data science techniques
• Scaling up laboratory software and pipelines to make them more efficient on large genomic data sets
• Benchmarking pipelines to process and model biomedical data sets
• Refactoring code developed by the laboratory into shareable software and web-based applications
• Supporting trainees with programming and software engineering tasks
Qualifications
• Bachelors degree in Computer Science or a related discipline. MS in Computer Science, Informatics, Data Science, or a related discipline is preferred.
• Expertise in programming in Python, R and/or MATLAB
• Proficiency in optimizing code within a high-performance computing environment
• Experience in machine learning methodology development and implementation of machine learning algorithms and pipelines, including data preparation techniques
• Demonstrable interest in implementing and evaluating computational pipelines for biomedical data sets, particularly populations-scale biobank data
Desired qualifications include:
• Experience with deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow and PyTorch
• Proficiency in general GPU programming and related frameworks

Compensation
The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $67500 - $101640 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
