Executive Bookkeeper/Accounting Lead
Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Executive Bookkeeper with a strong accounting background to join our growing team. This individual will be responsible for managing complex client accounts, applying advanced accrual accounting principles, ensuring accuracy under tight deadlines, and supporting multiple clients simultaneously. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise with QuickBooks Online (QBO), payroll processing across multiple platforms, and the ability to quickly learn new proprietary systems. This role is fully remote, requiring a self-starter who can manage responsibilities independently while maintaining strong communication with clients and the internal team. It is a leadership-track position with the opportunity to build and lead a team of accountants.
Key Responsibilities:
· Manage full-cycle bookkeeping and accounting for multiple clients across various industries.
· Perform accrual-based accounting, including journal entries, reconciliations, month-end and year-end close.
· Prepare and analyze financial statements, management reports, and other deliverables with precision and timeliness.
· Oversee and process payroll through multiple platforms (QBO, Gusto, Paychex, ADP, and others), ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local requirements.
· Develop expertise in proprietary software systems and train others as needed.
· Maintain strong client relationships through clear communication, timely reporting, and proactive problem solving.
· Work under tight deadlines with the ability to prioritize and manage competing demands across multiple clients.
· Collaborate with management to standardize processes, improve efficiency, and enhance quality controls.
· Mentor junior staff and, in time, lead and manage a team of accountants/bookkeepers.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (required).
· 5+ years of progressive accounting/bookkeeping experience, preferably in a client-facing or multi-entity environment.
· Strong knowledge of accrual accounting principles and GAAP compliance.
· Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Online (QBO) and Gusto; experience with Paychex, ADP, and other payroll platforms.
· Strong understanding of payroll compliance, tax filings, and reporting requirements.
· Tax knowledge is a plus.
· Proven ability to meet tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities with accuracy.
· Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
· Highly adaptable and quick to learn new systems and technologies.
· Self-starter with the discipline to work independently in a fully remote environment.
