We are seeking experienced and motivated Shop Mechanics to join our team in Douglassville, PA, and work on our 2nd and 3rd shifts.

Job Summary

As a Shop Mechanic with the H&K Group, Inc., you will be responsible for repairing and maintaining electric, diesel, and gasoline vocational trucks. You will work on a variety of vehicles, including heavy equipment and construction machinery. If you have a strong mechanical aptitude, excellent problem-solving skills, and a passion for working with your hands, this could be the perfect career opportunity for you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Read job orders and observe and listen to truck or equipment in operation to determine malfunction and plan work procedures
  • Install new ignition systems, align front wheels, change or recharge batteries, and replace transmissions and other parts
  • Replace gas or diesel engines
  • Examine protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices on trucks and equipment, and adjust as needed
  • Lubricate and service vehicles
  • Fabricate special lifting or towing attachments, hydraulic systems, shields, or other devices according to schematic drawings
  • Perform collision repair, sanding, prep, and painting
  • Complete all standard maintenance on trucks and equipment and ensure state inspection requirements are met for cars, trucks, and trailers
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements and Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

  • One-year certificate from an accredited college or technical school in diesel mechanics or a related field
  • OR 2 years of related experience and/or training
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
  • Class A or B CDL or ability to obtain within one year
  • Clean driving record
  • Customer service and teamwork skills
  • Mathematical skills
  • Willing and able to work a 2nd or 3rd shift schedule
  • Ability to fit test and utilize appropriate PPE as needed
  • Ability to meet physical requirements (movement, lifting, as relevant to job)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4 years of related experience and/or training
  • State Inspection license
  • Experience working in heavy civil construction, road construction, or quarries
  • OSHA, MSHA, or other relevant safety certifications

Physical Demands and Work Environment

As a Shop Mechanic with the H&K Group, Inc., you can expect to work in a fast-paced environment with a variety of physical demands. Here are a few things you should know:

  • Physical Requirements: You will be required to stand, walk, sit, talk, hear, climb, balance, and crawl on a regular basis
  • Lifting Requirements: You will be required to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds on a regular basis
  • Work Schedule: You will be required to work a 2nd or 3rd shift schedule, with hours regularly exceeding 40 in a week and 8 in a day
