About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and RID-certified American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter to join our team as a Video Remote Interpreter. As a VRI, you will work with our clients and their Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing patients or customers to provide accurate and culturally sensitive interpretation services via video. This is a unique opportunity to utilize your ASL skills, cultural mediation expertise, and knowledge of visual accessibility to make a positive impact on individuals' lives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide interpreting and transliterating services for Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing consumers and hearing consumers, primarily in healthcare environments.
  • Facilitate communication through the use of American Sign Language, spoken English, cultural mediation, and knowledge about accessibility.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all medical information.
  • Adhere to the NAD-RID Professional Code of Conduct.
  • Render messages faithfully, conveying the content and spirit of the speaker, using the language most readily understood by the person(s) being served.
  • Refrain from counseling, advising, or interjecting personal opinions into interpreted situations.
  • Accept assignments with discretion, considering skill, setting, and the consumers involved.
  • Demonstrate professional appearance, conduct, and promptness in all interpreted situations.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance knowledge and skills.
  • Maintain high professional standards through certification, ethical practices, and professional membership.

Requirements and Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

  • Complete proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL).
  • Valid certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID).
  • Knowledge of the NAD-RID Professional Code of Conduct.
  • Self-motivated with excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong judgment and problem-solving abilities.
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Flexibility to plan ahead and maintain a flexible work schedule.
  • Strong coaching, development, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and other related software and systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Medical interpretation experience.

Working Conditions

  • Work Location: Remote from a home office in the continental United States or one of our CyraCom offices.
  • Physical Demands: Requires sitting for extended periods; occasional lifting and carrying of material weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Equipment Operated: Hardware provided by CyraCom International.
