Job Summary

As an Elementary K-8th Grade Music and Choir Teacher at Peoria Unified School District, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the musical talents and appreciation of our students. You will be responsible for developing and implementing engaging lesson plans, managing classroom behavior, and fostering a love of music that extends beyond the classroom. This is a 9-month position, with a salary classification on the Teacher Salary Schedule.

Key Responsibilities

  • Student Success:
    • Manage and educate students while helping them discover and fulfill their potential in music and choir.
    • Develop and implement creative and engaging lesson plans that cater to diverse learning styles.
    • Document and share student grades and evaluations to ensure transparency and progress tracking.
  • Safety and Well-Being:
    • Cultivate a creative learning environment that is safe, inviting, and nurturing for students, staff, and the community.
    • Set and maintain standards of classroom behavior, upholding District discipline policies.
    • Take all necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Community Connection:
    • Enhance Peoria Unified's culture by encouraging and strengthening parent and community partnerships.
    • Be available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the regular instructional day when required or requested.
    • Foster positive relationships with students, teachers, parents, and community members.
  • Stewardship of Community Resources:
    • Adhere to effective policies, practices, and accountability of District resources.
    • Maintain accurate and complete records required by law, District policy, and administrative regulation.
    • Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.

Requirements and Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you must:

  • Possess a valid intern, provisional, or standard Arizona Teaching Certificate, or have the necessary qualifications to become certified in the state of Arizona.
  • Hold or be able to obtain an Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Be able to pass a fingerprint and background clearance check.
  • Possess or be able to obtain a valid government-issued ID.
  • Be willing and able to lift and carry heavy, bulky supplies and materials weighing up to 20 pounds, and lift students weighing up to 60 pounds.
  • Be flexible and able to work outside normal working hours as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

While not mandatory, the following qualifications are highly desirable:

  • Specialized training or certification in music education or a related field.
  • Experience in teaching music or choir to elementary K-8th grade students.
  • A proven track record of developing and implementing innovative and engaging lesson plans.
