As a Teacher in our Transition Classrooms, you'll play a vital role in shaping the academic and social-emotional growth of our students.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized and group instruction based on district curriculum in certified subject areas, adapting lessons to address the academic and social-emotional needs of students.
  • Monitor student online coursework in district online curriculum (Secondary).
  • Create opportunities for students to apply, practice, and demonstrate knowledge and skills learned.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching resources, including curriculum materials, technology, supplemental printed materials, field trips, and guest speakers, to facilitate learning.
  • Adhere to student IEPs, SDIs, and 504 Plans, ensuring that instruction is tailored to meet the unique needs of each student.
  • Provide documentation on students' academic and behavioral performance in accordance with district grading guidelines and timelines.
  • Supervise students in all related student activities, providing positive, assertive interventions through strong classroom management strategies.
  • Demonstrate the ability to de-escalate students in crisis situations, maintaining a safe and respectful classroom environment.
  • Work collaboratively as a team member, supporting the mission and goals of the Transition Classrooms program.
  • Model positive, pro-social behavior, demonstrating respect, responsibility, integrity, empathy, impulse control, emotional self-awareness, and professional boundaries.
  • Participate in required meetings, trainings, and organizational development opportunities, maintaining active PA teaching certification and ESPI training certification.

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

  • A Bachelor's degree in an Academic study.
  • A valid PA Teaching Certificate (PK-4, K-6, 4-8, 7-12).
  • The ability to develop and implement effective group and individualized education programs.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build meaningful relationships with students.
  • The capacity to remain calm in crisis situations, identifying underlying causes of problem situations and resolving conflicts.
  • A commitment to incorporating principles of trauma-informed care in all areas of service delivery.

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications are highly desirable:

  • Experience working with students with diverse needs, including those with trauma or emotional challenges.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practices and trauma-informed care principles.
  • ESPI training certification or willingness to obtain certification.
